Cherokee Nation Child Support Services Offered in Jay

JAY, Okla. — The Cherokee Nation is making sure additional help is available in Delaware County to assist parents with child support needs.
In addition to the tribe’s main Office of Child Support Enforcement in Tahlequah, staff will now be available at the Jay Human Services building, 1501 Industrial Park Road,to assist with all child support services. Beginning March 3, Cherokee Nation OCSE workers will be on hand from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. every Wednesday.
Cherokee Nation citizens can receive help with opening a case, establishing a child support order, establishing paternity and modifications to existing child support orders, as well as locating absent parents. Angel Smith, director of Cherokee Nation OCSE, said that the goal of the program is to provide quality local child support services to citizens, families and communities of the tribe.
The Jay location is the fourth satellite office to be established since the program began in July of 2007. Other satellite office locations include Sallisaw, Pryor and Claremore, plus the main Tahlequah office. Since its inception, the program has successfully collected more than $6.8 million in child support for Cherokee children. Tribal officials say they believe that is not only good for the children, but also for the local economy, as much of that money will be spent in Oklahoma to pay for the needs of those children.
If interested in opening a case with the Cherokee Nation OCSE, you will need to bring with you your child’s state birth certificate, Certificate Degree of Indian Blood card, social security card, your two most recent payroll stubs, a divorce decree, all orders signed by the court and a copy of the paternity affidavit, if one is available.
