Tribe, NSU to Offer Retirement Savings Workshop

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — Cherokee Nation is partnering with Northeastern State University to help baby boomers and others interested in building their retirement nest eggs by offering a workshop that will provide some necessary savings tips and tools.
“Behold, the Power of Saving for Retirement” will be offered on March 31, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Cherokee Nation’s Osiyo Training Room, located behind the gift shop at the tribal complex on Highway 62 south of Tahlequah.
Organizers say that with fewer employers offering retirement plans nowadays, it is often up to the individual to create his or her own retirement savings plan, through products such as 401Ks or Individual Retirement Accounts. Even so, many people do not have a thorough understanding of how much money they will realistically need to retire or the best way to select a financial planner to guide them, so the workshop will offer tools to make those decisions clearer.
Sponsored by the Cherokee Nation’s Small Business Assistance Center and NSU, the workshop will be presented by NSU students working under the advisement of Dr. Denise Deason-Toyne, assistant professor of business law and certified financial planner.
There is no cost for participating in the workshop and it is open to the public. Seating will be limited so pre-registration is requested. To register, call Jennifer Eschberger at (918) 453-5536.
